Why an 8 1/2 x 11 instead of a 12 x 12 album? The 12 x 12 album is HUGE. The outside dimensions are about 14 x 14. When we started to design this kit, the 12 x 12 didn't seem like a good table top box for display. It looked odd, so we went with an 8 1/2 x 11. This album size just works well with the 'home' theme.
